Basketball or Skateboarding? Nike Can Do Both
Have you ever wondered exactly how Nike got to be such a huge power house of a company in such a short amount of time? It seems that they have two main traits that help them, other than providing what their customers really want. Innovation and and tenacity are the two that really stand out. Innovation starts with the fact that they were the first to really go after the sports shoe market with crazy ideas that ended up doing a lot of good for athletes. Long before there was the Nike Dunk, there was a waffle iron in a garage and some rubber. Nike’s founder melted that rubber into one of the most innovative soles ever seen in a sports shoe up until that time.
Then there is tenacity, the ability to keep on keeping on, to hang on like a bulldog when the going gets tough. The Nike SB was designed for skaters in the 80’s and the SB actually stands for skate board. If you thought the skating community would be delighted to have their own type of shoes from Nike you can be forgiven for being totally wrong. They wanted to stick with the smaller brands and keep their sport underground, but Nike didn’t give up. They approached the pro’s and eventually, they wound up where they are today, offering excellent shoes that skaters and basketball players alike love.
